Google has shut down “What People Suggest,” an AI Search feature that summarized medical advice and health-related tips shared by users online. The Guardian reports that the company removed the feature after renewed criticism over the reliability of AI-generated health information and the risks of elevating amateur guidance in a context where users may treat top-of-page answers as trustworthy.

Google told The Guardian that the change was part of a broader effort to simplify Search, but the backdrop matters. The company has already faced scrutiny over AI Overviews and other AI-driven search features that can produce misleading or low-quality answers on sensitive topics. Health is one of the clearest cases where “interesting” product experiments can quickly become a reputational liability.

For publishers and marketers, the takeaway is straightforward: AI features in high-risk verticals are still highly unstable. Google may keep experimenting, but it is also showing that it will pull back fast when trust, liability, and public backlash start outweighing engagement upside.
