Brazil’s tax authority has introduced a new digital tool aimed at bringing greater clarity to gambling-related income. The country’s Receita Federal has launched an app that allows individuals to calculate income tax due on net winnings from fixed-odds betting and fantasy sports.

The platform went live on Monday (2) and forms part of a broader push to tighten financial oversight in Brazil’s rapidly expanding regulated betting market.

How the New Tool Works

The app is designed to help users calculate their taxable base for the previous calendar year. It applies specifically to:

  • Fixed-odds lottery betting
  • Online gambling platforms
  • Fantasy sports competitions

However, accurate calculation depends on access to a key document: the ComprovaBet certificate.

What Is ComprovaBet?

ComprovaBet is an annual statement issued by licensed operators detailing a player’s results over the previous year.

Operators must provide this certificate by the last business day of February, regardless of whether the player recorded profits or losses.

Without this document, users cannot correctly determine their net taxable winnings.

Tax Rules and Thresholds

Under current Brazilian legislation:

  • A 15% income tax applies to annual net winnings
  • The tax is triggered only if winnings exceed R$28,467.20
  • Amounts below this threshold are exempt

If tax is owed, individuals must complete a Documento de Arrecadação de Receitas Federais (DARF) — Brazil’s standard federal tax payment form.

The deadline for submission is the last business day of April.

According to the Receita Federal, centralising calculations within an official system is intended to reduce reporting errors and improve fiscal compliance in a sector that has grown significantly in recent years.

Self-Exclusion Platform Passes 300,000 Users

The tax app is not the only recent regulatory measure. In late 2025, Brazil introduced a Centralized Self-Exclusion Platform aimed at strengthening responsible gambling safeguards.

The initiative, overseen by the Ministério da Fazenda, has already recorded more than 300,000 exclusion requests since its launch in December.

The system enables individuals to:

  • Block access to licensed betting websites
  • Prevent the use of their Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas (CPF) for new accounts
  • Stop receiving gambling-related advertising
  • Choose a defined exclusion period

By linking CPF registration to the platform, authorities ensure that excluded individuals cannot easily bypass restrictions.

A Broader Regulatory Strategy

Together, the tax calculator app and the self-exclusion platform reflect Brazil’s dual-track regulatory approach:

  • Financial transparency and tax collection
  • Consumer protection and responsible gaming

As the country consolidates its legal betting framework, regulators are focusing not only on revenue generation but also on long-term market integrity.

Summary

Brazil’s Receita Federal has rolled out a dedicated app to help players calculate income tax on betting and fantasy sports winnings, applying a 15% levy on net annual profits above R$28,467.20.

Alongside a self-exclusion system that has already surpassed 300,000 registrations under the Ministério da Fazenda, the initiative underscores Brazil’s evolving regulatory framework — one built on stronger compliance, clearer tax obligations and reinforced consumer safeguards.
