Learn about the reasons why free traffic doesn’t work anymore.
Affiliate marketers who have relied on free traffic sources for years are increasingly acknowledging that the old methods are becoming obsolete. Algorithms are changing, platform moderation is tightening, and the audience is no longer responding to familiar tactics. What once brought a steady stream of leads is now turning into a lottery.
The gambling vertical in unpaid traffic sources faces two immediate barriers: the ironclad rules of the platforms and user fatigue from typical approaches. Creative plots are nearly exhausted, and there is too little freedom in free traffic to scale experiments.
To understand what is happening in practice, we spoke with Karim, a solo affiliate marketer who has firsthand experience with the nuances of running gambling offers through free traffic (UBT).
The Expert’s Take: Increased Moderation and Audience Fatigue
“Every year, driving gambling traffic from UBT sources becomes more difficult. There are two main reasons: strict moderation and a drop in response to the usual casino-themed videos. People are tired of the typical plots—demonstrations of mechanics, emotional reactions, or new games. For a video to gain any traction at all, you constantly have to search for new ideas. But there is far less freedom in free sources than in paid ones.”
According to Karim, the situation across platforms looks like this:
Platform Breakdown
TikTok
“TikTok used to be the most effective. Promotion was fast; you could play around with GEOs and different schemes. Now, everything has been tightened up: any mention of a casino results in an instant ban. You have to disguise the videos as regular gaming content. As a result, the viewer doesn’t understand what the video is about, and the conversion rate drops. The ‘scheme’ approach works best, where you run many accounts daily, then delete the videos and re-upload new ones. Otherwise, even well-established profiles will eventually be banned.”
YouTube
“Things are softer there, but the platform has prohibited pinning links in the comments. The conversion funnel has stretched out, and minimal traffic reaches the offer. Currently, the most successful content is videos featuring promo codes embedded within popular formats, such as fragments of interviews or excerpts from TV series. This mostly targets the CIS region. Running this in foreign languages is pointless—the result is close to zero.”
Instagram
“The most solvent source, but also the slowest. The algorithms are temperamental, view growth is sluggish, and any wrong move can lead to an account being ‘shadow-banned.’ Scaling is difficult: you can only run literally a couple of profiles on one device.”
UBT Summary and Shift in Strategy
Karim summarizes the situation regarding free traffic:
“If you have to choose an optimal variant, it’s still TikTok—but only with the ‘scheme’ approach. If you plan to work systematically, rather than just waiting for temporary relaxations in the rules, it offers the best results. The traffic should logically be moved to Telegram, where the audience can be ‘closed’ [converted] more effectively.”
Karim adds that he himself no longer runs gambling via UBT:
“Now, in other verticals—Dating, OnlyFans, and similar niches—you can achieve comparable figures with far less risk and effort.”
Conclusion
The market for unpaid traffic continues to shrink, and the space for the gambling vertical within it is becoming extremely limited. Those who remain in this niche are forced to work more carefully, change their approaches, and use systematic, ‘scheme-based’ models, as otherwise, their chances are slim.
For everyone else, alternative verticals are opening up that offer the same profits but require less hassle. This is where experienced affiliate marketers are now focusing their attention, and Karim’s words confirm this trend.
